transmediale 2020 kicks off with an opening night of the festival and its month-long group exhibition The Eternal Network on Tuesday, 28 January at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The opening is followed by the second Student Forum where student groups can expand and deepen their festival visit on Wednesday, 29 January. The film and video program is also taking place at HKW: it includes a cinema day with short film screenings, a lecture screening, talks, and a feature film on 30 January as well as a continuous short film loop which will be shown throughout the exhibition.

The Eternal Network shows around 20 artistic positions that question cultural and technological networks and rethink them in relation to contemporary urgencies. Thematic tours will complement the exhibition throughout the month.

The symposium takes place on Friday, 31 January and Saturday, 1 February at Volksbühne Berlin. It invites artists and theorists to a series of in-depth transdisciplinary exchanges focusing on the status of the network and end-to-end knowledge sharing within the ongoing transformation of digitalization.

The exhibition and the conference program will be curated by artistic director Kristoffer Gansing with supporting advice from Clemens Apprich, Daphne Dragona, Geert Lovink, and Florian Wüst, all of whom will also be responsible for different program items.
