Clubnetz Performance
Clubnetz Performance
Following the performative character of early net.art, this live-chat performance is based on the pioneering internet chat project Clubnetz, which unfolded in Berlin’s art and techno scenes in the 1990s. Hosted from 1994 in legendary clubs and bars like Frisör, WMF, Tresor, and E-Werk, Clubnetz manifested itself through clunky hardware terminals that allowed visitors to connect not only to each other, but also to the internet as such. For many, this will have been a first, as internet connectivity was still uncommon. Using a recently developed app, visitors to the exhibition-opening can participate in this laser-projected re-imagining of Clubnetz. After the performance, the experimental documentation will remain as a virtual sculpture, visible only through augmented reality, seemingly immaterial but potentially residing in the exhibition space forever.
Warning: In this performance laser lights are used that may affect those who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or have other photosensitivities.
